As a disabled person, I'm finding it difficult to stick to a biweekly schedule and want to give others a chance to get their writing out there, and turn this more into a shared, collaborative online publication.
Is This What You Want? is an online publication dedicated to what it's like being a disabled, crip, queer person of colour. In general, a lot of the posts are about disability, medicine/health care, social justice, relationships (of all forms), psychology, illness and more. I want to see other stories and I want to pay you (a modest sum of $5/piece) for accepted creative non-fiction pieces and essays.
Here are some guidelines! It's free to submit, submissions are rolling. I take 2-3 weeks on average to respond to people right now. You can submit as many pieces as you want, but please try to limit it because you’ll have to submit a new form each time. I will email you with a decision.
queer/trans, BIPOC, disabled, neurodivergent writers (intersecting identities always welcome) are encouraged to submit, and will be prioritized in the process. Write about anything your heart desires.
Document attached as a .doc or .docx, double spaced in plain, legible font (11 or 12 pt)
2,000 words or less, word count on the document.
Include a brief bio (100 words max) with your submission.
Must be an original piece/no previously published work. Simultaneous submissions accepted, but please notify me (it's a one-person operation) if you get accepted and want to withdraw your piece.
If that button doesn’t work, click here for the link (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd6_OxzeW7npNduFxLanCiiiu8g7rLqniudYcHqjo5js1oBtg/viewform)
If you are chosen, I will notify you by email and ask you for your Venmo, CashApp, Zelle or use Chime to pay you. A small but mighty little community, I hope you can submit!
